The West Virginia University Board of Governors has narrowed its list of potential candidates for interim president without naming anyone specifically.

The BOG said Nov. 21 it expects to make an announcement in early December, pending approval from the Higher Education Policy Commission.

"Today we discussed a large pool of highly qualified potential candidates," said Chairman James W. Dailey II. "We've narrowed our field and will continue the vetting process to identify the very best person to be our interim president."

Current president James Clements is leaving WVU to take the same position at Clemson University. He leaves January 1.

The BOG's next meeting is set for December 3.
