Black Friday: Stores Prepare For The Big Day

Santa may not have arrived yet, but the holiday season sure has. In the early hours of November 29, the Meadowbrook Mall in Bridgeport will be flooded with people ready to begin their holiday shopping.

For Sue Neubauer, the holiday season revolves around her family.

"I shop for my great grandson and my two children and my grandchildren," she said.

But none of that shopping happens on Black Friday, at least for her.

"No mam. Definitely not. I sit in my recliner and watch TV."

Meadowbrook Mall staff said they want to make sure Black Friday is fun and enjoyable for everyone.

"Its very festive. It's very enjoyable because its midnight out at the mall. It's a place where normally we would be shut down and the lights would be off. Now, it comes alive with thousands of people here. It's fun. I think people enjoy themselves," said Marcello Lalama, Property Manager Meadowbrook Mall.

This year, stores are opening earlier then ever. Some even opening their doors on Thanksgiving.

"The mall officially opens at midnight. However, we have a lot of our department stores that are all opening at 8, which has been the national trend opening up at 8:00 at night," Lalama said. "A lot of the other stores in the mall are following suit to get a piece of that traffic."

Some wait in the long lines for the excitement. Some said the deals are unbeatable. But others said its not worth leaving their family.

"We don't do anything until after Thanksgiving and our Christmas Tree was put up the night before Christmas. I know times are changing and things are changing but I don't change. I stay traditional," Neubauer said.

But the $59 billion spent on Black Friday in 2012 shows people are out and ready to shop.

Meadowbrook Mall said it prepared for the big day.

"If you want to come out here and brave those crowds, you're here for a reason. Nevertheless, we are fully staffed to handle anything," Lalama said.

The Meadowbrook Mall officially opens at midnight on November 29.
