Hall of Fame Inductees Honored at WV Italian Heritage Festival Ceremony

Posted: Updated:

Clarksburg's famous "Italian Heritage Festival" already took place earlier this year, but on Saturday night, residents honored several notable Italians who have helped to make it happen over the years.

Twelve locals were inducted into the West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival Hall of Fame, as part of the festival's 35th anniversary celebration.

Senator Joe Manchin, who comes from a large Italian family, served as the keynote speaker of the event. He said he's proud of his heritage.

"If we could honor those who came here, just think about it...couldn't speak the language, had no idea where they were going, had no idea where they would end up, didn't know the culture at all," said Manchin. "All they knew is they had to work hard, and they were determined to provide a good living for the family."

Those honored at the event were Rosalyn Queen Alonso; Carmine Cann, Sr., David D'Annunzio, Vincent D'Annunzio, Josie D'Annunzio, Loretta Romano Mazzie, Joseph Minard, Merle Moore, I.L. "Ike" Morris, Sonny Oliverio, Louis Petitto, and Michael Ross.
