CLASS AA

#13 Robert C. Byrd (9-3)

#1 Wayne (12-0)

Friday, November 29 - 7:30 p.m. at Huntington High School

Robert C. Byrd is riding a six-game winning streak and hits the road Friday to face top-seeded Wayne. The Pioneers defeated the Eagles one year ago in the state semifinals, on their way to back-to-back state titles.

Byrd pulled out the road upset over Frankfort in round one, which was then followed by a dominating performance on the road at Ritchie County one week ago in the quarterfinals.

Wayne is considered a favorite to win the title this year. The Pioneers have not lost a game since September 30th, 2011, which came at the hands of Point Pleasant.

"They're hard nosed. They like to hit," Robert C. Byrd Head Football Coach Bruce Carey said. "They're very aggressive on defense. I've seen them once when we traded film with Scott. They're still running the Wing-T and we're looking forward to the challenge."

"We know the coaches always do a nice job, and you look at their season, and they've improved throughout the year. They've won a bunch of games in a row so they're playing well at the right time. It's a game we can't take lightly," Wayne Head Football Coach Tom Harmon said.

#3 Bluefield (10-2)

#2 Bridgeport (11-1)

Friday, November 29 - 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, No. 2 Bridgeport will host No. 3 Bluefield. The winner will advance to the state title game at Wheeling Island Stadium.

It will be the first time since 1995 that the two teams collide.

Current Indians' Assistant Coach Jason Nicewarner was Bridgeport's quarterback the last time they met Bluefield. However the Beavers ended up winning that game, 14-7.

Bridgeport comes into this match up at 11-1, with its one loss coming at the hands of Class AAA's Wheeling Park. The Patriots won the game on a field goal with under a minute remaining in the contest.

The Indians owned Roane County in the first round, and shut out Fairmont Senior, 28-0 to advance the state semifinals.

"You don't have to be around high school football much to hear them mentioned," Bridgeport Head Football Coach Josh Nicewarner said. "I know they thrive on speed and athleticism. That's something I think we have better, than we've had in the years past. So that's an important thing."
