GRANVILLE -

Barnes and Noble at the University Town Center in Granville invited some West Virginia authors to hold a book signing Sunday.

The book signing included local West Virginia authors from Headline Books. Including Miss Northern West Virginia Outstanding Teen 2014, Krystian Leonard.

Her platform for the pageant that she will be competing in this summer is a non-profit organization called Shining S.C.A.R.S. The book she was featured at Barnes and Noble for writing is based off of the organization and is called ‘Shining Scar.'

Growing up Leonard experienced first-hand the trials and self-esteem issues associated with visible scars. She found the strength she needed to overcome her self-image and entered her first beauty pageant at the age of 14, and one year later competed in her first Miss America Scholarship Organization preliminary pageant.

"It's my platform and I wanted to reach out to younger children too. You know, and I realize that reading is a big issue nowadays," said Leonard. "You always want your kids to read and to have an active mind. I can incorporate my meaning of Shining Scars and then put it in this book."

There were also other authors there with seasonal books available about elves, holiday fun and even a crime fighting Santa.

For more information about Leonard or her Shining S.C.A.R.S platform visit her website and look her up on Facebook.
