Spencer Bookkeeper pockets more than $800,000

An elderly bookkeeper who admitted stealing more than $800,000 from her employer, a Spencer-based oil and gas company, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison and ordered to make restitution, U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said.

Rosalie J. Seabolt, 60, of Spencer pleaded guilty in August to defrauding her employer, Kimko, of at least $815,693.27 over a 12-year period.

Authorities say Seabolt, who'd worked for Kimko for more than 25 years, wrote a number of checks to herself from the firm's account, then falsified company records to suggest she'd used the money to pay a Kimko affiliate.'s business expenses. She also altered and destroyed bank statements, they said.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the West Virginia State Police.  Assistant U.S. Attorneys Meredith George Thomas and Philip Wright prosecuted the case, part of a Small Business Protection Initiative that targets individuals who defraud small businesses in the Southern District of West Virginia.
