Fairmont State University announced on Tuesday the hiring of Patrick McGinnis as the new head coach of the brand new women's soccer program. McGinnis arrives in Fairmont after spending the last six seasons as the head coach of the women's soccer program at Alderson Broaddus University.
"We are very excited to welcome Patrick to Fairmont State as the first women's soccer coach," said Director of Athletics Tim McNeely. "Patrick did a tremendous job building the A-B program over its six years and we are very confident that he can have the same success at Fairmont State."
McGinnis was hired as the head coach at Alderson Broaddus with the school announced the birth of the new women's soccer program in 2008. McGinnis finished with a winning record of 58-45-11 while serving as the head coach of the Lady Battlers. He also led ABU to a WVIAC Regular Season Championship in 2012.
"I am very excited for another opportunity to build a soccer program from the ground up here at Fairmont State," said McGinnis. "I would like to thank President Rose, Tim McNeely and Fairmont State University for giving me this opportunity and I can't wait to get to work."
McGinnis has served at nearly every local college, in some capacity, in North Central West Virginia. He began as a head coach at Salem International University. He then spent time as an administrator at Glenville State College.
Fairmont State will begin its inaugural women's soccer season in 2014 as a full member of the Mountain East Conference.
