HUNTINGTON, WV -

Joy Pelfrey, director of senior services at Cabell Huntington Hospital, has earned her certification as an Advanced Nurse Executive, one of only 12 nurses in the state to hold the designation.

Pelfrey leads the hospital's senior services initiatives, including efforts to educate seniors about their health and improve inpatient care for elderly patients at the hospital.

She received her certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center, an organization recognized as the gold standard in nursing.

Pelfrey has been employed at Cabell Huntington since 2003. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Marshall University School of Nursing. She graduated from the family nurse practitioner program and practiced as a primary care provider in Huntington for many years prior to joining the hospital.

Pelfrey has led Cabell Huntington to attain certification as a Nurses Improving the Care of Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) hospital each year since 2006. No other hospital in the Tri-State region or West Virginia holds this designation.

Cabell Huntington is a 303-bed academic medical center that cares for patients from more than 29 counties in West Virginia, eastern Kentucky and southern Ohio.
