Balloon Released by Norwood Elementary Students Lands in India

STONEWOOD -

Each October for Red Ribbon Week, Norwood Elementary School students send off red balloons.

The balloons have a tag attached that asks where and when the balloon is found and for it to be returned to the school.

Principal Dora Stutler said the balloons usually get returned from places in the area or surrounding states, but this year was different.

"We usually have them local, Pennsylvania and Virginia. We received one back from North Dakota and thought that was a big deal and then we received an envelope and we had one that came from India. They were really excited and it was kind of hard to believe but we did some research and it was 8,700 miles," explained Stutler.

The school has a board in the hallway dedicated to the balloons.

There are many that were returned from the area, and even right across the street.

More than 300 balloons were released.

Stutler said the school has held the balloon release for at least 10 years.
