Local Organizations Host Annual Holiday Markets

Posted: Updated:

Prickett's Fort State Park and the Harrison County Senior Center are just two of the many venues where local vendors could sell holiday presents over the weekend.

Dozens of people came out to Prickett's Fort to take advantage of the 18th century Christmas Market on Saturday.

The market gave visitors the opportunity to shop in a unique historic setting. Vendors were selling handcrafted jewelry, ornaments, toys, and more.

Local musicians performed seasonal music and there was much more available to the public.

Employees said they are extremely happy with the market turnout this year.

"This event is the longest-running event here in Prickett's Fort. It's been going on since 1976, since the fort itself opened. And it has taken on different forms over the years. We used to do it all ourselves, and now we bring vendors here from all over the state," said director Greg Bray.

If you missed it on Saturday, Prickett's Fort will also hold the Christmas Market on Sunday from 12-4.

Meanwhile, The Store To Door Girls hosted the 2nd annual 'Holly Jolly Vendor Expo' at the Harrison County Senior Center on Saturday.

People were able to come out and shop while benefiting a good cause.

Vendors paid a $25 table fee, which went straight to helping the elderly of Harrison County.

The event aims to stock the shelves at local food banks and create care packages for the elderly.

"A lot of times, the seniors are forgotten about, especially at Christmastime, so it helps to bring awareness and helps to bring the community together to help people out," said organizer Laura Pysz.

The goal of the event was to make 150 packages for senior citizens.
