BRIDGEPORT -

The Harrison County School System has received a large grant from the School Building Authority to renovate Simpson Elementary School in Bridgeport.

The SBA awarded $1 million for the $2.7 million project.

The Harrison County Board of Education will provide the $1.7 million left to complete the project.

The project will remove an old tower and turn it into new energy-efficient classrooms along with other renovations.

Harrison County Board of Education President Mike Queen said this is only phase two of the project.

He said phase three will involve adding a new gym to the school in the next few years.

Queen said the school board will start taking bids for the project in the spring.

Some students from Simpson Elementary will need to be moved when construction starts.

He said they will most likely be the 5th grade students, and they will be moved to Bridgeport Middle School until the construction is finished.
