Organizers said when setting financial goals, figure out exactly how much you can spend on gifts for others, then chart your expenses. Budgeters should compare their fixed expenses to flexible expenses. Not paying off your holiday expenses immediately may have major repercussions, according to experts.
"A lot of people are just kind of like, 'Oh, it's going to happen every year. It doesn't have to. There's still stuff you can do even now to finish out your holiday shopping and preparations that you're doing, then to plan for next year to make it really really successful," said Lauren Martin of AFES.
The organization is hosting a budgeting workshop on student loans on Tuesday, December 17 at 6 p.m. at the Clarksburg Library.
