Pedestrian Struck by Car in Salem, Man Arrested

A vehicle struck a pedestrian in Salem just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on Main Street, according to Harrison County 911 officials.

The Harrison County Sheriff's Department arrested Daniel Casteel, 25, of West Union and charged him with DUI with injury. Lt. Barnhart of the Salem Police Department said Casteel's vehicle ran off the road and hit a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk. Casteel is being held in North Central Regional Jail.

EMS transported the pedestrian a short distance before deciding to call for a medical helicopter to fly the patient to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. The pedestrian's name and condition is unavailable.

The Salem Police Department is leading the investigation.
