The Fairmont General Hospital Foundation has received a large donation that will go toward its latest campaign.

CONSOL Energy has donated $20,000 toward a navigational bronchoscopy system for the hospital.

The system will produce real time 3-D images, enabling physicians to take biopsies of the lungs. Navigational bronchoscopy equipment will detect tumors of the lung and diagnose lung cancer.

To date, $108,000 has been raised for Navigational Bronchoscopy equipment. The gift puts the Foundation even closer to reaching its $129,000 goal.

"We have been friends with Consol for many, many years. Our recent gift of $20,000 came to us about a week ago. It's the same gentlemen that has brought it to us the past six or seven years. They are back with us this year," said Frank Pulice Jr., of the FGH Foundation.

The Foundation said the machine has arrived at the hospital and expects to meet its goal by the end of the week.

The Foundation Board of Directors serves on a voluntary basis to help provide the necessary financial resources so the hospital can continue to fulfill its mission of providing quality care and respond to changing healthcare needs in our growing community.
