Main Street Fairmont has unveiled its newest ornament, which celebrates the former East Fairmont High School.

The ornament program has become an annual holiday tradition in Marion County, and something residents look forward to every year.

The program was instituted in 1994 as a fundraiser for the newly established downtown revitalization organization.

After 19 years, the ornament program is a staple of Main Street's fundraising strategy and has gained significant acclaim, with the community eagerly anticipating each year's featured building.

Each ornament is constructed from solid brass, plated in 24 caret gold, and hand assembled with an insert describing the building's history and architecture.

"Really it's just a part of what Main Street does. We are an organization that advocates for historic preservation and saving our beautiful spaces, so this is a way of doing that," said Kate Greene, of Main Street Fairmont.

Residents can add the East Fairmont High School ornament to their collection for $20.

The ornaments will be available for purchase throughout Downtown Fairmont's retailers and local establishments.

The 2013 ornament was sponsored in part by Blackwood Associates.
