HUNTINGTON, WV -

U. S. News and Best Lawyers have recognized Huddleston Bolen in the 2014 list, "Best Law Firms." The firm was recognized in a total of 26 categories.

In Charleston, the firm was named a "Tier 1" firm in the areas of Banking and Finance Law; Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights, Insolvency and Reorganization Law; Commercial Litigation; Corporate Law; Employment Law (Representing Management); Financial Services Regulation Law; Insurance Law; Construction Litigation; Labor and Employment Litigation; Personal Injury Litigation (Representing Defendants); Product Liability Litigation (Representing Defendants) and Railroad Law.

The firm also was named a "Top Listed" railroad law firm.

According to the publishers, the U.S. News — Best Lawyers' "Best Law Firms" rankings are based on a rigorous evaluation process that includes the collection of client and lawyer evaluations, peer review from leading attorneys in their field among others. To be eligible, a law firm must have at least one lawyer listed in 19th edition of Best Lawyers in America list for that location and specialty.

The latest honors come on the heels of several other recognitions from Best Lawyers. Two of the firm's lawyers, Luke Lafferre and John H. Mahaney, were named "Lawyers of the Year" for 2014, with Lafferre recognized for his work in Railroad Law and Mahaney in Construction Law.

The publishers also recognized Lafferre as a "Best Lawyer" in Mass Torts/Class Action Defense and Personal Injury Defense. He studied political science at West Virginia University, where he was a National Merit Scholarship recipient and graduated cum laude. He is a 1984 graduate of the West Virginia School of Law. He is the president of the Federalist Society of West Virginia.

For 2014, Mahaney also is listed in Best Lawyers in the areas of Commercial Litigation, Employment Litigation, Personal Injury Defense, Mass Tort Litigation and Railroad Litigation and is recognized by West Virginia Super Lawyers for his work in Business Litigation.

Also a Fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America, an honor conferred on less than one half of 1 percent of lawyers nationwide, Mahaney is a native of West Virginia.

He graduated magna cum laude from Bethany College in 1989. In 1992, he graduated from the Washington & Lee University School of Law where he was a member of The Order of the Coif. After practicing law in New Mexico for three years, he returned to West Virginia in 1995.

He also is a member of the National Association of Railroad Trial, the Counsel Defense Research Institute and the Cabell County Bar Association, where he served as president for 2003-2004. He also volunteered as a Little League baseball coach and as a basketball coach at Huntington YMCA.
