Fraternal Order of Police Encouraging People To Decorate in Blue Lights

ELKINS -

Local Fraternal Order of Police are encouraging everyone to decorate in blue lights this holiday season.

By placing one blue light in a window of your home, you'll be showing support for officers killed in the line of duty and those who continue to work on the street.

The color blue is symbolic for peace.

"Police officers, it's my belief are appointed by God. This is a calling not everyone can follow and this shows during this season of peace we are honor who have fallen," said Elkins Police Chief Steve Richards, and also president of FOP Seneca Trail Lodge 104.

The recognition was first started in 1986 by a mother whose son worked for the Philadelphia Police Department and was killed in the line of duty.
