Bridgeport Honors Law Enforcement with Blue Christmas Tree

Posted: Updated:
BRIDGEPORT -

Many people honor law enforcement by putting blue lights in their windows during the holidays.

Dolly Craig started the tradition in 1988 by placing two blue lights in her window on Christmas.

Craig had a family member die in the line of duty.

For the last two years Bridgeport City Hall has displayed a blue Christmas tree complete with blue lights, ornaments, and a blue police light on top.

Police Chief John Walker said it's important to honor and remember two men in particular.

"Jim Hotsinpiller was a Lieutenant with the police department and was an active member of the department when he passed away shortly before the holidays. A few years ago his son, Derek Hotsinpiller, who was serving for the United States Marshall Service, was killed in the line of duty and so we thought it would be pretty fitting to decorate this tree in blue in their memory," said Walker.

You can see the tree as you pass Bridgeport City Hall located on Main Street or Route 50.
