CLARKSBURG -

The Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library hosted a Christmas Party for the kids on Saturday.

Joann Dadisman is part of a duo of West Virginia storytellers called Mountain Echoes.

Dadisman recited stories to the children, and handed out candy canes and cookies.

Dadisman said her stories are meant to tell the children about the traditions of Christmas.

"The basis for this was the traditions of Christmas. To help the children understand a little bit more about why we have a tree, why we have tinsel on the tree, why we have a stocking, but also to promote the idea that its not just a time of getting, but rather a time of sharing," said Dadisman.

Dadisman's stories told why tinsel is used on trees, how stockings became part of the tradition, and included the classic "Twas the Night before Christmas."

After Dadisman told the stories, the kids got a visit from Santa Claus and the chance to tell him what they want for Christmas.
