UPDATE: Victim Identified in Fatal 3 Car Crash on I-79 in Lewis County

The Weston Police Department is investigating a three vehicle crash that happened at 6:19 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27 on Interstate 79 south at mile marker 99. The crash involved two passenger cars and a truck. The cars were traveling south bound when they collided and entered the median. The flat bed truck was heading north bound and was struck when one of the cars crossed over the median.

One person died in the crash, said Deputy Chief J.P. Thomas in a news release. The driver killed in the crash has been identified as Akwasi Amponsah Owusu, 33, from North Carolina. One person was also transported to Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The Weston Fire Department, Jane Lew Fire Department, and Lewis County EMS responded.

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office and West Virginia State Police also assisted at the scene.
