City of Clarksburg Prepares for Jackson Square New Year's Eve Party

CLARKSBURG -

The Clarksburg New Year's Eve Celebration kicks off on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Jackson Square.

The 2nd annual event offers food, drinks, live music and more to help ring in the new year.

Crews were at work early Tuesday morning and the past few days to get the party ready.

Clarksburg Mayor Cathy Goings said they've even thought of a way to keep everyone warm tonight.

"We have plenty of patio heaters scattered throughout Jackson Square. We have over 20 units so you should stay warm, just dress accordingly. We're hoping to make this not only Harrison County but surrounding counties. My goal is to make this a statewide event," Goings said.

Goings also said that the work the crews put in to making the event a success was very appreciated.

"They've worked really hard and diligently to get this event put together for us and we really appreciate their hard work," Goings said.

The event will finish with fireworks and a ball drop at midnight.

The Clarksburg Fire Department has been getting ready to rig up the ball again this year.

The department uses its ladder truck and a disco ball to mimic the drop in Times Square.

Clarksburg Fire Chief Rick Scott said it's not a complicated process, but seems to please the crowd.

"We bring our 100 foot ladder truck and we have a lighted mirrored ball on a rope. It looked good. We shine spotlights from it on the ground and it reflects off the buildings here and it looks good," said Scott.

The event starts in Jackson Square at 7:30 p.m. where Mayor Goings will kick off the party by lighting the new lights installed at Jackson Square.
