Fitness Centers Help Clients Keep New Year Resolution Goals

We've all done it.   We said, "This year is going to be different." And headed to the gym. Only to gradually stop going as the year continues.

Gyms, including Lakeview Fitness Center in Morgantown, do what they can to make sure people sign up and keep coming back.

"We've got a lot of specials going on with paid-in-fulls," said Matthew Stine, the Assistant Fitness Director and Head Personal Trainer at Lakeview. "We've got all kinds of group classes that we offer through out the week. And we have boot camps that start up periodically this time of year. We've got four or five trainers that are pretty much readily available."

Maybe you want to work out in the New Year but heading to the gym isn't exactly your speed. Power Yoga Morgantown has something a little bit different to offer you. Co-owner Amanda Love said Power Yoga combines strength training with traditional yoga poses in a warm atmosphere.

"We practice with the asana, the movement, which is the yoga," said Love. "We bring in inquiry questions to each class and we bring in some meditation. We try to break everything down so everything is simple. Our classes are all levels."

Power Yoga Morgantown offered a free New Years Day class to help people start the new year right. There were almost 40 people that showed up for the class.

Love said that they are also offering some specials.

"We have a lot of new people signed up so we're really excited for that. And then from there we have a two week for $25 special," Love said. "Where for $25 they can practice as much as they want in those two weeks. Some people will even practice two or three times a day."

If you're still looking for that traditional gym atmosphere Lakeview has a number of workout regimens to choose from.

"We've got everything from indoor basketball courts and tennis courts, we've got racquetball, we've got the indoor lap pool, which not too many people have. the sauna and the steam room which is nice for after you work out," said Stine. "We've got a rock wall if people are interested in that. We've got a few people on staff that are trained to send people up there. So it's a nice change that you can mix up your workouts."

Most personal trainers agree that making heading to the gym a priority will turn it into habit.
