Marion County Sheriff's Department To Continue Fight Against Drugs In 2014

FAIRMONT -

The Marion County Sheriff's Department said 2013 was an extremely busy year.

Deputies said they were called to car accidents nearly every day and house fires on occasion.

Two of the most common crimes in 2013 was driving under the influence and possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance.

"Eventually fate has a way of catching up with you. We are out there. We have more deputies on the street now then ever. I think they are better trained. I mean the training that we are getting them. Sooner or later, they are going to find you. If you are committing a crime, we are going to get you," said Chief Deputy Ralph Wright, Marion County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies said getting drugs off of the street has been one of its main priorities and that is one thing that will continue into 2013.

"We are dedicating more people to that, to the drug enforcement. We are going to continue that. That is a huge problem that creates a lot of other crimes and we are going to focus on getting drugs out of Marion County," said Chief Deputy Wright said.

Deputies said the departments' New Years Resolution is to be more active in the community and be more noticeable on the streets.
