The Randolph County Sheriff's Department was dispatched at approximately 8:12 p.m. on Jan. 2 to respond to a two vehicle crash on old Route 33, just east of the Crystal Springs/Elkins exit.
The accident involved male driver in a Chevy Silverado truck with going easbound towards Elkins. The truck slid on ice and snow into the oncoming westbound lane and collided into a tractor trailer, also driven by a male.
The driver of the pick-up truck was transported to Davis Memorial hospital to be treated for his extensive injuries. The other driver was uninjured.
Road conditions appear to be the reason for the crash according to authorities. The Elkins Fire Department, Randolph County EMS, WV DOT, WV DOH, Coalton Fire Department, and WV State Police also assisted on the scene.
