UPDATE: 100,000 Homes Campaign Prepares to Count Homeless in Harrison County

Posted: Updated:
CLARKSBURG -

Update:

The Harrison County 100,000 Homes Campaign met on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming homeless count and survey.

Next Tuesday through Thursday volunteers will go to all the communities in Harrison County to conduct the survey.

The ones who are the most at-risk will be provided housing.

This survey is different than in years past.

"We've always held housing kind of over their head. They had to do the things that we needed them to do, whether that be mental health counseling, substance abuse. They had to do those things first before housing was made available to them. We will continue to offer those same services but they will get housing first and across the country that has been very successful," explained Rhonda Lindsey, with the Clarksburg-Harrison Regional Housing Authority.

Volunteers are still needed.

A count of the homeless population will be held in Harrison County this month.

On Tuesday the 100,000 Homes Harrison County Campaign met to discuss a survey they will be doing at the end of the month.

Volunteers will go around the county to survey the homeless population.

When they find someone who is homeless they will give them a survey to take, and that survey will help to determine who is the most vulnerable, and those people will receive housing through the campaign.

The Clarksburg-Harrison Regional Housing Authority said these meetings are important to have before the survey.

"It's very important to get all these communities together. We had Nutter Fort, Shinnston, Bridgeport, Clarksburg, we need their support because their first responders they know where these people are, they're getting calls everyday and going out and they can help us find them," explained Rhonda Lindsey, the section 8 manager of the Clarksburg-Harrison Regional Housing Authority.

The count will actually be held January 28th through the 30th.

Volunteers are always needed. You can find the volunteer form here.
