Coordinating Council Forms to Reduce Homelessness in Morgantown

Posted: Updated:

The City of Morgantown asked a group to come up with a plan to reduce homelessness in the area.

The Coordinating Council on Homelessness is now implementing a plan. The council will have seven to 13 community members.

One of the first ways to address homelessness is by joining the 100,000 Homes Organization. It's creating new housing opportunities for the homeless by July.

"People who are most vulnerable are those who are actually living out on the street, that's number one, or somewhere in the woods or somewhere where their health is clearly at risk. Those are the folks we want to see housed first. This year our count is going to be a little more extensive and we are going to need a lot more volunteers for that," said John Sonnenday, a member of the Coordinating Council on Homelessness.

The homelessness count will be January 27 through January 29.
