BRIDGEPORT -

Update:

The Clarksburg Mission collected many items to take down to the southern part of the state.

Representatives from the mission said more than 12,000 pounds of water was donated on Saturday and Sunday along with paper products, baby wipes, and food.

There was even enough money donated to rent a different truck that could haul that much weight.

The items donated were being taken to give to the people who need the most help.

"We're actually reaching out to a young lady who's from Clarksburg originally and she's an executive director of a mission in the heart of Charleston. She'll be able to reach out into the community and provide this for people who might not be able to get to the filling stations," said Dee Layton, with the Clarksburg Mission.

Rokisky's Exxon donated the gas for the trip down.

The items were taken to Charleston on Monday.

Communities in our area are continuing to come together to help those affected by the water crisis.

The Clarksburg Mission has been collecting items like water, paper products, and food to send to Charleston.

The mission had a truck set up outside of Home Depot on Saturday and Sunday and said many people dropped off goods.

Representatives from the mission said they were surprised with the amount of donations.

"It's really amazing and the power of Facebook is fantastic. Danny Hamrick from the North Central West Virginia Airport just brought up 30 cases of water and people are donating money for gas for the truck. It's just really awesome," said Dee Layton, with the Clarksburg Mission.

One of the biggest donations came from two men who dropped off more than 150 cases of water.

The mission was planning to take the donations down late Sunday or early Monday morning.

The Taylor County Health Department also collected items on Saturday and Sunday.
