New Year, New You: Nutrition a Key Aspect of Living a Healthier Lifestyle

If you're attempting to live a healthier lifestyle this year working out shouldn't be the only thing you're focused on, but eating right should be too.

Now doing that is even easier at the Harrison County YMCA. Nutritionist Michelle Parrish of Mountain State Nutrition will be available to help you with those goals.

"With the YMCA being a health and wellness facility as well as a family facility we felt that having a nutritionist would be a great addition and complete the full puzzle. A lot of people are coming in to workout, especially right now with New Years resolutions; it's the perfect time for Michelle to come on," said Mary Binegar, membership and marketing director at the YMCA.

Parrish will be available once a week at the branch on Lodgeville Road to make an eating plan specifically for you.

"Your first visit you come in and get weighed and measured, we do body fat and hydration, and I'll give you a menu to follow: it consisted of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins. You eat six times a day, three meals and three snacks, and then you'll come back weekly, get weighed and measured and get a new menu," explained Parrish.

Parrish will customize the menu if there are any allergy restrictions or taste preferences.

In the past Parrish has not only helped people lose weight, but changed their lives completely.

"I have people come off of their diabetic medicine, their blood pressure medicine, lower their cholesterol, plus lose weight," said Parrish.

Binegar said that offering this service makes the YMCA a complete package for health.

"I'm hoping that being able to offer just one more facet to the whole picture is going to encourage people to see that the ‘Y' is here for their health and wellness needs, and the fact that we're a family facility it's a place they can come to with the whole family," said Binegar.

Parrish will be at the YMCA every Wednesday.

She will be available at the Lodgeville Road location from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
