West Virginia State Police have arrested two Elkins residents on child neglect creating risk of injury charges.
Billy Jo Evans, 31, and Heather Marie Helmick, 30, are accused of leaving an infant child in the back of their vehicle for 15 to 20 minutes in 28 degree weather while eating at an Elkins restaurant. Witnesses said the vehicle was unattended and the engine was not running, according to a criminal complaint.
Evans was also found to have alprazolam in his pocket, which is a schedule four drug, according to a criminal complaint.
Helmick and Evans are each being held in Tygart Valley Regional Jail with bail set at $50,000.
