Lewis County Commission Aiming to Bring Down Jail Bill

Posted: Updated:

The Lewis County Commission braved the roads for its regular meeting Tuesday morning.

The commission has been facing increasing jail bills all year thanks to an increase in drug arrests under Sheriff Adam Gissy.

The county's bill for December was its highest yet, just under $75,000.

The commission also discussed the purchase of new tracking bracelets for the home confinement program to keep up with the cost.

"If we want the criminal off the street, we can't just pat them on the hand and let them out the same day they get arrested. They've got to serve some time to send a message to hopefully deter other crime," said Commissioner Pat Boyle

Boyle said the expansion of home confinement in the county will help bring down those bills.
