Snow Day Policy To Change For Schools

Posted: Updated:

For many students, nothing beats the feeling of waking up and knowing school has been canceled.

The winter weather has caused that to happen for most schools two days in a row.

Marion County school officials said the decision isn't one they take lightly.

A lot of things must be considered before they make the final call. This includes the temperature, how much snow is on the ground, and road conditions.

Marion County Superintendent, Gary Price, said his schools have to make up seven snow days a year but that will soon be a thing of the past.

"You have to make up every single day. So yes, students may be happy on one hand that they get a day off but not so happy on the other hand that they may end up staying up later in the summer," Price said.

Price said the new policy could have schools continuing to make up days all the way to June 30.
