Fairmont General Hospital's Take 5 for Life Program Offers Diagnostic Testing at Reduced Rates

Posted: Updated:

Fairmont General Hospital is offering disease prevention and early detection diagnostic testing at reduced rates.

The hospital's Take 5 for Life program will take place Saturday, February 8 from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.

The screenings evaluate a person's risk for heart disease, stroke, peripheral vascular disease, gall bladder disease, osteoporosis and abdominal aneurysm.

The program offers will offer six diagnostic tests.

The Carotid Artery Screening tests for blockage in one or more carotid arteries in the neck that supplies oxygen-rich blood to the brain.

The Peripheral Vascular Screening can detect blockages in the arteries of the legs. Symptoms may appear as cramping in the calves while walking.

Screening for the Abdominal Aneurysm could be a life-saver. A ruptured aneurysm in the abdomen if undetected could prove to be fatal. This screening is a simple ultrasound test.

The Gall Bladder Screening consists of an ultrasound of the patient's gall bladder for gall stones. A six hour fasting is required for the gall bladder screening.

The Bone Density/Osteoporosis test measures bone denseness which helps assess the individual's risk of osteoporosis. Loss of bone mass increases the likelihood of bone fractures, the disease can also be debilitating if not caught early.

The Heart EKG exam checks for problems with the rhythm and electrical activity of the heart.

All tests are performed by hospital diagnostic technicians in the FGH Radiology Department and Cardiovascular Center, both located on the first floor of the hospital.

Each exam costs $30 and patients must pre-register.
