Marion County Board of Education To Hold School Calendar Meetings

Posted: Updated:

The Marion County Board of Education will be holding two public meetings concerning the 2014-2015 school calendar in the near future.

One was set to be held February 3 in the library of North Marion High School, but Superintendent Gary Price said the weather caused it to be rescheduled for February 17th at 5:00 p.m.

A second meeting will be held at Watson Elementary on March 3.

All Marion County residents are invited to attend the meeting and offer input on all aspects of the calendar. This includes days off, proposed holiday breaks, and the first and last days of school.

Price said many of our area schools have been getting pretty used to snow days. His schools have to make up seven snow days a year but that will be changing in the 2014-2015 school year.

"For this year under the old guidelines, the state established how many days you needed to put into your calendar that you had to make up. We had to make up seven. Other counties had to make up different numbers of days depending on how many they have typically missed in the past," said Gary Price, Marion County Superintendent.

Schools sent home a survey asking parents for feedback on proposed changes. Those interested can also complete the survey online until Friday, February 28.
