Lewis County Commission Receives Grants For Community Groups

Posted: Updated:

The Lewis County Commission braved the wintry weather for its regular meeting Monday morning.

The commission accepted requests for payment from multiple community groups through a Governor's Community Partnership Grant.

The grants are applied for by members of the state legislature and help fund groups like the Mountaineer Military Museum and the Lewis County Baseball Association.

Commission President Agnes Queen said the grants are a big help to those groups.

"Those are very important, so we hope that the Governor's Partnership Grants continue to stay around and that our wonderful delegates and senators continue to seek those for our entities here in the county," said Queen.

Queen said even though each grant is only a few thousand dollars, that money can make a critical difference for those groups.

The commission dealt with grants from three different groups in the area.

The Jane Lew Community Center has received multiple grants to help fund improvements to the building.

The Lewis County Baseball Association has received a grant to help with construction of a batting cage.

Another grant was also received by Post 166 of the American Legion in Weston to improve the legion's parking lot.

Each grant provides only a few thousand dollars.
