State Police Investigating Stabbing in Monongalia County

An arrest has been made in a stabbing that happened in Morgantown on Feb. 5, 2014.

West Virginia State Police arrested Sarabeth Rice this week.  Rice was charged with malicious wounding.

Rice allegedly got into a fight with her child's father, Shane Stephens, and she stabbed him in the abdomen.

Stephens was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

West Virginia State Police are investigating a stabbing in Monongalia County Wednesday morning.

State Police said it happened on Donna Avenue in the Autumn Ridge Development of Mileground Road just before 4:15 a.m.

Upon arriving, officers heard a man calling for help. Troopers entered the residence and located Shane Edward Stephens, lying in the living room area with a puncture wound to the left abdominal area, said a news release from state police. Stephens was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. His injuries didn't appear to be life threatening.

Troopers discovered the victim and the suspect, an ex-girlfriend, were involved in a physical domestic violence situation. The suspect said she felt threatened by the victim and stabbed him in self defense, said state police.

The investigation is ongoing.
