WVU Hosts Merit Badge University for Boy Scouts

Posted: Updated:

Part of West Virginia University's campus became Merit Badge University Saturday afternoon, as more than 200 boy scouts had the opportunity to earn a variety of different badges.

The event is a way for Boy Scouts to learn more about WVU and gain knowledge in several areas, ranging from chemistry and robotics to engineering and first aid.

"We had scouts that were using gyroscopes and were being shrink-wrapped, and we had scouts who were riding bicycles that were producing power and lighting light bulbs, and we had the WVU cheerleaders here," said Dr. Dan McNeil of WVU.

"I'm getting to earn a merit badge, I'm getting to do some fun activities, I'm getting to take people's blood pressure," said boy scout Eric Frohnapfel.

WBOY's Andrew Clay, who is an Eagle Scout himself, mentored some of students in the communications department.
