WVU Child Learning Center Hosts Discussion On 'Reggio Emilia Approach' In Schools

Posted: Updated:

The WVU Child Learning Center and Diane Rudash hosted a conference on Saturday to discuss child development in schools at North Elementary.

School officials from across the county came together to listen to potential changes to the curriculum.

Joy Saab, Director of the WVU Office for Diversity and Global Initiatives, gave a presentation on the Reggio Emilia Approach, which may be used in county schools in the near future.

The approach is an educational philosophy focused on preschool and primary education. It was developed by Loris Malaguzzi, who was a teacher himself, and the parents of the villages around Reggio Emilia in Italy after World War II.

It is based on the interests of the children and the principles of respect, responsibility, and community.
