Mountaineer Area Robotics Hosts Open House Showcasing Robots

Posted: Updated:

Mountaineer Area Robotics Team gathered Sunday evening at the Wesley United Methodist Church to show parents, sponsors, and community members their robots.

MARS is comprised of a team of high school students who build robots and compete against other robotics teams. This year students are competing in an aerial assist event by using robots in a basketball-like game team of three. Students said their excited to compete in the event and learn more about the technology involved in having multiple robots communicating together.

They also said that their mission is to achieve greater youth involvement in science and technology by building the robots in a team environment.

"We say it's the hardest fun you'll ever have. We dedicate a lot of time to this. During our build season which is six weeks long from the New Year until now we are meeting everyday after school on Wednesdays, and all day Saturday," said Emily Raque, Mechanical Sub-team Leader.

Raque says it take a lot of time and team work from everyone in the MARS group to make all the pieces come together. The team will go to Charleston South Carolina to compete in a regional event against others 70 other robotic teams the first weekend in March.
