New Year, New You: YMCA Helps One Local Woman Lose More Than 100 Pounds

CLARKSBURG -

Brandy Ryder is a local woman who joined the YMCA to start a healthier lifestyle. Fast forward 14 months she's already down more than 100 pounds.

Ryder has lost 135 pounds to date.

She said getting started on her weight loss journey wasn't that easy.

"When I started out it was mostly cardio like running. I started not really being able to run much, just walking and working my way up. Now I usually run several times a week," Ryder said.

But Ryder said the family feeling at the Harrison County YMCA has helped her along the way.

"It's kind of like a family, if you're not here they know you're not here and they miss you so you kind of feel like it's a place to belong and everybody's always happy to see you and when you're not here I feel like you're missed," Ryder explained.

Ryder still wants to lose 50 to 75 more pounds, but she said her main goal is just to be healthy.

"My main goal was just to be healthy for my family. I have three small kids and the support of my family, friends, and the people I've met here along the way has made it all worth the while," Ryder said.

In addition to working out at the YMCA, Ryder also runs 5K races to change things up.

She said the weight she's lost isn't anything special, and that anyone can do it with the right mindset.

"Before you even get started in doing something like this you have to change your way of thought. You have to want it for yourself; you can't just want to do it just because. You have to change your mind before you change your body," said Ryder. "I'm very proud of what I've done but also it's something that if anybody can put their mind to it and stick to it then anybody can do it. Come to the Y because there are a lot of people here that will help you out."

Ryder also said setting mini-goals rather than large ones can help you on your weight loss journey.

We'll be keeping up with Ryder along her journey and keep you up to date with her progress.

Ryder said anyone who would like to come and join in on her routines is more than welcome to.
