WVU Board of Governors Discuss Evansdale Construction, New Journalism School Name

Posted: Updated:

The West Virginia University Board of Governors convened Friday and discussed a variety of items including new pedestrian and vehicular safety improvements on WVU's Evansdale Campus, a name change for the journalism school, and an update in the presidential search.

The Board of Governors chair James Dailey II told the board that the committee has received 31 nominations and/or applications for potential candidates. The names of those candidates will be turned over to a search firm, once selected.

The Board learned that the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism will be known as the Reed College of Media, effective July 1. Dean Maryanne Reed said the name change will represent the diversity of the school and a changing media environment.

New traffic lights and crosswalks were approved for the Evansdale Campus, along with renovations to the law school building. One upgrade will include the realignment of Evansdale Drive with Monongahela Boulevard which includes a four-way traffic light at the intersection, said a news release from WVU. Fresh Capital, an Alabama limited liability corporation, is the developer; March-Westin the construction firm.
