Morgantown Police Clear Alert About Potentially Dangerous Animal

Posted: Updated:

The Morgantown Police Department is warning residents about a potentially dangerous dog in the area.

Officers were investigating an incident at Wal-Mart when multiple people approached them about two large dogs that were eating a dead deer along Grafton Road near Dorsey Park, according to a news release from Morgantown Police Department.

An officer went to the location and found the two dogs along the road.  The officer kept sight of the dogs while waiting for the county dog warden to arrive.

During this time, the two dogs charged toward the officer and began barking and growling.  The officer then fired four shots at one of the dogs.  This dog ran over the hill from Grafton Road, where it died shortly thereafter, according to the news release.

The second dog ran down Grafton Road toward Route 73 and was last seen running toward the Mountaineer Mall.  Police describe the dog as being a brown-colored mixed breed weighing about 100 pounds.  Police said Monday morning that the dog had returned home and the public is not believed to be in any danger.
