NEW YORK, Feb. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Softbank Telecom Corp. and Yahoo Japan Corp. work together in providing cloud services and from February 6 started providing Yahoo! Japan's unlimited-capacity storage service, Yahoo! Cloud Storage, as White Cloud Distributed Storage.*1

The storage platform for this distributed storage is Riak CS, U.S. company Basho Technologies, Inc.'s distributed database technology,*2 which enables fast access to large-volume data and highly-reliable system architecture that conventional storage services have difficulties providing. Stored data will be automatically replicated for redundancy, within both the same data center and among multiple data centers, enabling Yahoo! Japan to offer unlimited-capacity, fast and safe storage that is fault-tolerant, disaster-resistant, robust and highly-available.

Distributed Storage

1.    Advantages

(1)  Low-cost storage of large-volume data
The basic price for 1GB data storage will be ¥10 before tax, or approximately $0.10, enabling low-cost storage and backing up large-volume data and contents, which are important in this big-data era.

(2)  Excellent performance
All files can be stored, including images, documents and video. With the high-performance distributed storage clusters, uploading and downloading data are smooth and comfortable.

(3)  Robust and highly-available
In addition to replicating data within each data center in Japan, the data is automatically distributed among remote data centers in East and West Japan for robustness and high availability.

(4)  Highly compatible with Amazon S3 API
This distributed storage uses the REST (Representational State Transfer) Web API, which is highly compatible with Amazon's cloud storage, Amazon S3. You can use applications and services that use REST API. With the unified interface for cloud storage, hybrid cloud access simply requires changing the access points, meeting customer needs for secure access.

2.    Basic price

Monthly fee: ¥10, or approximately $0.10, per GB (tax not included)

Data transfer fee is also required. Each company, however, may upload up to 10 TB of data per month free of charge.
