Erin Sponaugle, a fifth-grade teacher in Berkeley County, spoke to students about overcoming anxiety and switching majors in college to earn her degree in elementary education.
Sponaugle said she sees this year as an opportunity to become the voice of the profession.
"Who would I have wanted to speak to me when I was entering the profession? They have so much opportunity to be a good person and to do good things. And whatever is in your way right now, that's just a building block," said Sponaugle.
On Thursday, Sponaugle will speak at Stonewall Resort to the high priority schools in West Virginia.
Sponaugle is a 10-year veteran of the teaching profession and currently works at Tomahawk Intermediate School Middle School in Berkeley County. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Shepherd University and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from West Virginia University.
