Pierpont Community and Technical College Prepares to Renew Accreditation

Posted: Updated:

Accreditation is a peer review process evaluating educational programs and services for quality and improvement.

Pierpont Community and Technical College was accredited on a ten-year cycle by the Higher Learning Commission in 2003, and now its time to renew.

The Higher Learning Commission Peer Review team of five will visit the Pierpont campus March 3 and March 4 to address five criteria in a process called the Assurance Review.

"What we do is provide evidence that we are meeting certain standards. There are five criteria that have to answer questions about and provide evidence that we are providing quality education to our students," said Leslie Lovett, Provost and VP for Academic Affairs.

Lovett said accreditation ensures transferability of course credits and allows students access to federal financial aid. Accreditation also assures colleges and employers that a student's education meets acceptable levels of quality.

Along with the Assurance Review, Pierpont must take part in a quality improvement project chosen by the institution. Pierpont's project is titled, "Practical… Possible… General Education."

The Higher Learning Commission is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
