ELKINS -

Search and rescue teams have to prepare themselves for anything and everything that comes their way. That even includes having their teams out in any type of weather.

That was the purpose of this weekend's cold weather operations exercise conducted by the West Virginia Wing of Civil Air Patrol.

CAP is a volunteer auxiliary of the United States Air Force.

About 50 members participated from all of the 12 units that the Wing has in the state.

CAP officials said its very important to train in any type of conditions.

"Most of the times airplane crashes are in bad weather, so we have to train in that and know once we send a ground team out to find an aircraft," said Major Richard Judy, Civil Air Patrol. "They are not going to get themselves hurt and be an overall liability to success of the mission."

CAP has three primary missions. Search and Rescue, Aerospace Education and a Cadet Program for youth ages 12 to 21.
