Posted: Updated:

Update:

A fire broke out at a house on Clark Street in Shinnston on Tuesday night.

The Shinnston Fire Department said the fire started in the basement near the hot water tank and furnace.

The residents were home at the time but everyone made it out safely.

The department said the fire was contained to the basement, but the first floor suffered smoke damage.

Chief Doug Gregory said the damage wasn't too bad, and the family will be able to move back in after some clean up.

The State Fire Marshall's office has been called in to help investigate the cause, but it is not believed to be suspicious.
