The West Virginia Universal Pre-K Collaborative continues to recognize the best Pre-K teachers in West Virginia.

On Thursday, February 21 during the Celebrating Connection Pre-K Conference, the West Virginia Department of Education, West Virginia Head Start and the West Virginia Department and Health and Human Resources announced Amber Myers as the 2014 Universal Pre-K Outstanding Teacher.

Myers, director and collaborative universal preschool teacher at Pierpont Community and Technical College, was selected from among 14 finalists from across the state.

According to research, children who attend high-quality Pre-K programs enter kindergarten with better pre-reading skills, richer vocabularies and stronger basic math skills than those who do not attend preschool. Research also shows that high-quality Pre-K can decrease dropout rates, crime and delinquency and improve health.
