WVU Mining Professors Honored at National Event

Two members of the West Virginia University mining engineeringfaculty received national recognition recently at the 2014 annual meeting ofthe Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Keith Heasley, Charles T. Holland Professor of MiningEngineering received the 2013 SME Coal and Energy Division DistinguishedService Award. The award is given to an individual for achievements in the coalmining industry. Heasley's work in numerical modeling has been used in theLaModel Program, which is a software program used throughout the miningcommunity.

"I am honored and humbled to have received this award frommy peers in the Coal and Energy Division," Heasley said. "I have enjoyedserving the mining industry in the past, and I hope to continue to serve in thefuture."

Vladislay Kecojevic, Massey Foundation Professor of MiningEngineering, received the 2013 SME Coal and Energy Division Chair Award. Theaward is presented to the individual who served as chairman of the division theprevious year.

"It was a privilege to serve as chair of the division in2013," Kecojevic said. "I worked with many incredible professionals fromindustry, academia and governmental agencies. It was a wonderful personal andprofessional experience."
