West Virginia State University will sponsor its first Student Professional Day "Out of the Jeans and Into the Suits," on April 2 in room 134 of the Wilson University Union.

The purpose of the event is to equip students with tools necessary to succeed after graduation.

Students may check in beginning at 9 a.m. April 2, and at 10 a.m. they will have the opportunity to get their photographs taken at a Professional Head Shots station. From 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and between 1:15 p.m. and 2 p.m., students will visit a series of "Professional Pit Stops" to gain tips from local business professionals on topics such as: Your Digital Footprint, Resume Evaluation, Interview Preparation and Dressing and Conducting Yourself as a Professional.

At 12:30 p.m. participants may attend the Generation Charleston Employment Panel during which young area business leaders will discuss what it means to be a professional.

The Student Professional Day will conclude with a dining etiquette program from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in McGhee Suites led by a certified corporate etiquette and protocol advisor, Pam Harvit.

Harvit is a nationally known speaker who has presented to executives and employees of medical schools, hospitals, universities and other organizations.

During the five-course meal, students will learn proper dining etiquette for a business function.  This event also requires pre-registration and is free to WVSU students.
