WVBA spring conference slated for Oglebay Park

The West Virginia Bar Association's annual spring conference will be Saturday, May 3 at Wheeling's Oglebay Park.

The event features a range of educational activities in both real estate and business law, beginning with registration from 8:45-9 a.m.

Speakers on the real estate side include Christopher R. Arthur, West Virginia Consumer Credit Protection Act and case law update of consumer cases; John W. Fisher II, Dean Emeritus of the West Virginia University College of Law; Steven M. Prunty, condominium, homeowner associations, restrictive covenants, sub-division maintenance and lien priority; Laura A. Wareheim, First American Title Insurance Co., real estate issues including updates on Dodd-Frank and new consumer financial protection bureau mortgage rules and other issues; and Andrew Miller and Vance Golden leading a panel discussion on "The Idea Bank" for real estate practices including ethics, office management and current real estate issues.

Golden said the real estate programs offer a total of 7.30 MCLE credits, including 1.1 ethics credits.

On the business law side, former WVU President David Hardesty, now a professor in the WVU School of Law, will discuss changes and emerging trends in the practice of law; Charles D. Dunbar of Jackson Kelly, updates on commercial law; Bill Wilmoth, Charlie Dumbar and Rick Pill, a panel discussion on changes in the daily life of a lawyer (1990-2014 and beyond) with WVBA President Jim Gardill serving as moderator.

In addition, representatives of LexisNexis, the automated legal research provider, will discuss tools to enhance law office management, and Dean Boland will discuss the use of technology to enhance the practice of law.
